There are more Eider chicks around now spread between the harbour and Saucehope. The weather is being kind to them. There were a group of sandwich terns fishing from Saucehope in the midday sunshine. I think they were May Island breeders as one caught a sandeel and then headed off to the island. It seems a long way to go with just one sandeel, but it’s the reality for most of the May’s seabirds. They usually have to commute kilometres to feed and these distances are what determines whether it’s a good breeding year or not.
